Ed Farrell

Ed Farrell co-founded and is vice-president of business development of CareerSite Corporation, which is the Web's fastest growing Recruitment site. CareerSite.com has over 15,000 job seeker visitors per day and adds 300-500 new members each day to its 65,000 registered members. CareerSite's 400+ employer customers include such leading companies as Ford, Fidelity Investments, HP, Perot Systems, and Arthur Andersen. CareerSite has a staff of 18. Recently, the company began a partnering program targeting existing employment intermediaries. Initial channel partners include a newspaper group comprised of 100 newspapers and a computer magazine with 600,000 subscribers. Last month, CareerSite closed its first international licensing deal with a consortium of the leading newspapers groups in Brazil. CareerSite's funding sources to date have been "angel" investors. Despite an expensive, aggressive year-long effort to attract traditional venture capital, the company has been unsuccessful in raising VC $. The company recently shifted its fundraising focus to pursuing strategic partners/investors and is in discussions with a number of prospects. The company is optimistic its efforts will finally pay off.

Ed Farrell has a MBA from Michigan State University and a BGS from the University of Michigan. Mr. Farrell's background includes entrepreneurial roles as a founder, manager, and a consultant where he practiced screaming "show me the money" before the phrase became fashionable. And in one case it resulted in $750K in venture money. As a consultant, when not teaching others the art of advanced screaming, he wrote numerous business plans for technology based growth companies.

Sunil Gupta, Ph.D.

Professor Gupta is a faculty member in the marketing department and director of the Hermes project at the University of Michigan Business School. Hermes conducts research on various aspects of the commercial uses of the World Wide Web. The semi-annual GVU/Hermes survey of WWW users has become a standard reference for those interested in learning about who uses the Web. The Hermes corporate panel, currently made up of over 1,400 companies around the world, provides data on why and how companies are using the Web. Currently, Professor Gupta is working on a project aimed at understanding how the Web marketplace is likely to develop and evolve in coming years.

In addition to the Internet, Professor Gupta's current research deals with issues of distribution channel design and efficiency, especially newly developing economies around the world. He is a faculty Fellow of the William Davidson Institute and lectures on distribution channel issues faced by companies in transitional economies.

Bob Peyser

After an artificially protracted art education Mr. Peyser mistakenly believed the hype about the capability of early personal computers, and spent enough time and money on them to have the solid foundation for a major law suit, were he so inclined.

In 1989 Mr. Peyser moved to Seattle from Ann Arbor and as penance spent a couple of years creating Multimedia Interactive works.

After his return to Ann Arbor in 1994 he fell in with "Those Who Cannot be Mentioned on Advice of Council" and helped create hundreds of web sites.

If the popular press is to be believed, Mr. Peyser's firm is the only one in existence that has avoided bankruptcy merely by accepting banner advertising on their own web sites. I doubt it.
